It is located in the northwest of Mexico and the beginning of the municipality of the same name. It was instituted in 1531, is located in the state of Sinaloa. It is located 21 kilometers south of the Tropic of Cancer and borders the municipality of San Ignacio to the north and the Pacific Ocean coast to the west.
